Day 01 : Winchester to Exton (perhaps) - 12th/13th August 2007

For all kinds of reasons, I decided that I'd like to hike the South Downs Way. I think really I'd been harbouring a desire to do the Pennine Way since I was a Venture Scout as a teenager. But the South Downs are closer to London where I live and would provide a more manageable introduction to the world of long distance hiking. I didn't really have any set agenda for how long it should take, but somewhere inside me a conviction that I'd like to complete it had formed. So a start had to be made.

Obi and I picked a weekend when the weather looked pleasant, booked a BnB in Winchester, had a sunny Saturday in the city centre and then on the Sunday, off we went.
